School Age Support Projects

School Age Support Projects

The purpose of this program is to support school age children with disabilities and their families in enhancing their quality of life. These projects are designed to provide training, technical assistance, and support to child care programs, summer camp programs, recreation programs, before and afterschool programs, and elementary schools in our community in order that children with behavioral challenges, developmental concerns, and significant disabilities can be successful in these programs. Additionally, on an individual basis as needed specific therapies, such as speech therapy, may be provided.

Children’s services staff are pursuing avenues for providing positive behavioral support for school age children and their families or teachers with strategies to support children’s social and emotional development. The goal is to increase children’s socially acceptable behaviors as they participate in different programs with typically developing peers through the use of Positive Behavior Support. The use of functional assessments and applied behavior analysis concepts, behavior intervention plans can be developed and implemented with the ultimate goal of children being able to be successful in these programs.
